Welcome International Students

Thank you for your interest in Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (SCH Academy). We are eager to welcome international students to our school and invite you to learn more about the unique program we offer.
 
SCH Academy is one of the largest independent day schools in Philadelphia, with over 500 boys and girls in the high school. Our students pursue academics and extracurricular activities with enthusiasm—they can be robotics engineers, cross-country runners, filmmakers, and orchestral musicians all at the same time. 

The application process for all International students is facilitated by one of our partnering agencies. All applicants must be interviewed and provide recent TOEFL scores. Applicant tours and student visits must be scheduled and hosted by a partnering agency.

Sands Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL)

In the fall of 2012, SCH Academy launched the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, a program that complements our rigorous core academic curriculum with a business and innovative mindset that has earned the attention of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and includes Stanford University’s design thinking model.

In an increasingly changing and fast-paced global economy, students must be prepared for college, life, and careers. The Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership incorporates a bold and creative vision that challenges the limitations of traditional education, preparing students for the real world. A deeply passionate and progressive faculty leads students to recognize the intersections among various disciplines—where innovation, enterprise, and value creation occur—helping students become more comfortable with complexity and to be adaptable, inquisitive, and resilient. With this pioneering mindset, the graduates of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy become leaders: competitive, courageous, and future ready.

Competitive College Placement

Three full-time college counselors with a combined 60 years of experience ensure that each student is well known and enjoys easy access to counselor support. The SCH College Counseling Office believes that students’ unique passions, strengths, and individuality are at the heart of the college process, a journey during which students, their parents, and their counselors work together to identify colleges that will nurture students’ interests and foster their continued self-discovery.

Leader in Science Education

For the last decade, SCH Academy has been recognized as a leader in science education. Annually, our students win top honors in science fairs and academic science contests throughout the city. The school’s robotics program and the eight robotics teams for students of all ages are annual winners of some of the most prestigious awards and tournaments in the country. The science curriculum offers students in every grade challenging and exciting learning experiences that help them develop the skills of scientific inquiry and an understanding of the laws, systems, and structures that define our natural world. Classes provide students with opportunities to use the most up-to-date equipment and technologies as they ask questions, design experiments, explore, collaborate, and become efficient and effective problem solvers. Our interdisciplinary curriculum integrates engineering principles in meaningful and relevant ways, asks students to quantify their work using appropriate mathematical and statistical tools, and use the arts and new media to model their work or creatively and richly display what they have synthesized.

Ideal Setting

The school is located in a charming, historic section of the city of Philadelphia that provides access to the cultural opportunities of the sixth largest city in the United States, but with a village feel that allows our students to walk easily to school, into the village of Chestnut Hill, and to the nearby Fairmount Park system.

SCH enjoys a 62-acre campus that includes 11 buildings, including recently renovated athletic fields and facilities, and sits adjacent to the Wissahickon Watershed. Distinctive features of the campus include 17 laboratories, including a 1,600-square-foot state-of-the-art Robotics and Engineering Lab, Imagineering Lab, Physics and Engineering Lab for Lower School; historic national landmark Wissahickon Inn; Sol Lewitt installation; half-acre solar array installation; Low and High Ropes Challenge Course; and five performing arts venues.
