• Medical Plans

  SCH partners with Independent Blue Cross to offer robust medical plans. We offer an HMO and a PPO plan. Employees who enroll in the HMO select a primary care physician and have access to specialists through a referral system. Unless there is an emergency, employees need to stay “in network” for all services. Employees who enroll in the PPO may see the provider of their choice without referrals. The plan has an individual and family deductible. Employees who elect the PPO plan have access to a Health Savings Account (HSA) to set funds aside to pay for their deductible. Both the HMO and PPO plans include prescription drug coverage.

• Dental Insurance

  SCH employees have access to any dentists of their choice through our dental PPO plan offered through Delta Dental. The plan provides preventive, basic, major, and orthodontia benefits.

• Life Insurance

  SCH offers two plans: one group term life where the school pays 100% of the cost and the benefit is $50,000 to your beneficiary. Because the school recognizes the importance of granting employees a very rich benefits package, we started offering a voluntary life insurance benefit. Employees can buy additional insurance for themselves, their spouses, and their children. UNUM is our carrier for life insurance.

• Short- and Long-Term Disability

  The school pays 100% of the short-term disability cost. If an employee becomes ill and is absent for five consecutive days, he or she would be eligible for short-term disability and would get paid 100% of their salary for the first 20 days. On day 21 the salary goes down to 60%. On day 91, if the employee is still out, she/he would be paid by the long-term disability policy, if the claim is approved by the insurance carrier, also UNUM. The long-term disability policy is paid by employees. The cost is minimal, but it allows employees to receive tax-free compensation in the event they go out for long-term disability. 

• Retirement Plans

  The school offers a retirement annuity whereby if employees meet the eligibility criteria (starting to work for SCH immediately after working at another employer with a qualified plan), they will be able to participate in the plan from day 1. If eligible, employees participate with 5% of their base and get a 7.5% match. All contributions are 100% vested from day 1. The school also offers employees the option of saving additional dollars for retirement by giving employees access to a supplemental retirement annuity. There is no employer match, but since all contributions are made on a pre-tax basis, in addition to saving for retirement, employees benefit from reducing their taxable income. TIAA-CREF is our vendor for retirement programs.

• Lunch Allowance

  The school provides all full-time employees $990 to use towards lunch in the school’s cafeteria. The allowance is prorated for part-time employees and for employees who are hired after September 1st of each year. So there is such a thing as “free lunch” at SCH Academy! 

• Flexible Spending Accounts

  Employees have access to both medical and dependent care accounts. The dependent care account maximum is $5,000. The medical FSA is $2,750. FSAs allow employees to pay with pre-tax dollars for medical and dependent care expenses.

• Other Voluntary Benefits

  Employees can purchase the following voluntary benefits through UNUM: accident and critical illness insurance.

• Professional Development

  SCH is committed to providing access to professional development opportunities to all employees. In addition to pursuing advanced degrees, employees attend conferences and workshops on a regular basis.

• Access to Financial Counseling

  SCH partners with Ameriprise to offer employees access to financial counseling. The school pays for the first appointment, which costs $200. The employee pays for any following appointments.

• Wellness Initiatives

  Through our partnership with Blue Cross, employees have access to savings on gym memberships and personal training. Employees also have access to alternative health programs such as massage therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. In addition, as a result of our partnership with The CHARGE organization, employees have access to a customized nutrition program.

• Paid Time Off

  Full-time staff employees have the following Paid Time Off schedule:
  
  

  0-2 years of service: 22 days

  3-4 years of service: 27 days

  >4 years of service: 32 days
  
  

  Employees may carry over 10 days from year to year but must use those days by December 31st of each year. Leave is prorated for part-time benefit-eligible staff.

   

  Faculty employees who are full-time have 3 PTO days to be used from September to June of each school year. Leave is prorated for part-time faculty. Faculty PTO days do not carry over to the following school year.
